northwest washington. investigators say that she first robbed the pnc bank on wisconsin avenue northwest. then moments later the same woman approached a teller at the bank of america in the 3400 block of connecticut avenue northwest. in both cases witnesses say that the robber got away in a black jeep. no one was injured. police are not saying exactly how much money was taken. well, the rest of the world knows what the baltimore ravens fans have been saying all season. we are the best. their win against the san francisco 49ers last night was 34-31. it came after an amazing comeback and a half-hour blackout. vinita nair has more. >> and the vince lombardi trophy. >> reporter: the ravens are headed back to baltimore as super bowl champions but many fans will remember this game as

the blackout bowl. >> i want to know who's in charge paying the power bill at the super dome. >> reporter: half the lights went out. interior sections of the stadium were almost completely in the dark. the outage left fans and players dismayed and the announcers speechless. >> i wasn't sure they would be able to restart the game tonight. >> reporter: after 34 minutes, the lights finally came back o. officials say the power system sensed an abnormality. >> if there was another system, they were ready to reboot just about when the system came up. dwe have another alternative. >> reporter: new orleans has already expressed interest in hosting the 2018 super bowl in the super dome. it's unclear if the outage could affect that bid. the blackout stopped a ravens blowout who were ahead 28-6 at the time. >> crab tree still had his feet in for the touchdown. >> reporter: but the ravens

defense and the retiring superstare lewis stopped the 49ers' final drive. >> baltimore, we're coming home, baby. >> reporter: the longest super bowl in history featured several story lines. a battle between two head coaching brothers, joe black company's mvp -- joe flacco's mvp performance but it was the power outage that provided the biggest twist. >> because of the pow other outage, the game lasted four hours 14 minutes. most of the celebrations in baltimore were controlled and safe. there were some who took advantage of the situation. this is video of some people in baltimore looting a 7-eleven store. police tried to maintain order but the crowds at the store were entirely too large. thankfully police were eventually able to get that situation under control. there is no word if any arrests were made. the driver of a tour bus

that crashed in southern california reportedly had brake problems before the collision. at least eight people were killed. 38 others were injured sunday night. the bus was carrying mexican tourists leaving the san bernardino national forest when it crashed. federal investigators report that the company that operates the bus had not had any crashes in the past two years. days before the boy scouts of america prepare to consider lifting its ban on gays, president obama has decided to weigh in. in an interview with cbs news sunday, the president praised scouting as an organization which offers opportunities and he said no one should be excluded. >> the scouts are a great institution that are promoting young people and exposing them to opportunities and leadership

that will serve people for the rest of their lives. i think nobody should be barred for that. >> the boy scouts of america will meet next week to discuss if it will change its national policy banning gays from scouting. president obama is honorary president of the boy scouts of america. today metro begins a project to replace three escalators at the pentagon metro station. crews will remove the affected escalators from the station's south side. metro says that this work is not as big as last year's escalator project that took place at the dupont station. the pentagon escalators were installed 18 years ago, and metro says rehabilitating them is not practical or cost effective. customers will still be able to use the pentagon station's north side escalators. the replacement should be completed by fall. the standoff between police

and an alabama man is now almost one week old. the suspect is accused of murdering a school bus driver and kidnapping a 5-year-old boy. marie hall has the latest from midland city, alabama. >> reporter: ribbons and signs hang outside midland city elementary school where teachers and staffers returned today for the first time since a bus driver was killed and a kindergartner was abducted last tuesday. it's still not clear when classes will resume. police say 65-year-old jimmy dykes is holding a 5-year-old boy named ethan in an underground bunker. hostage negotiators have been talking to dykes and delivering food, medication and toys to the boy through a ventilation pipe. on sunday they delivered cheese- it crackers and a hot wheels car the boy requested. investigators have not said if dykes has asked for anything during negotiations. ethan turned 6 years old on wednesday. he has a disorder similar to autism.

a friend of the boy's family tells cbs news the child is scared. >> i know he's cried. i know he wants his momma. he's never really been away from her. >> reporter: school bus driver charles poland was remembered as a hero at his funeral yesterday. police say dy kes shot and killed poland after he refused to hand over a child when dykes boarded his bus. the superintendent read letters from children who used to ride poland's bus. a procession of school buses escorted poland to his final resting place. cbs news, midland city, alabama. dykes was a decorated veteran of the vietnam war and neighbors describe him as a hostile loner. still to come when the news continues, a lot of people are talking about the ravens super bowl win. but this afternoon redskins

the man charged with fatally shooting former navy seal chris kyle was an iraqi war veteran that kyle was trying to counsel. kyle earned a reputation as one of america's deadliest military snipers. his friend chad littlefield was also killed at a gun range. the suspect, 25-year-old eddie routh used a semiautomatic handgun when he allegedly shot kyle and littlefield at the shooting range on saturday evening. authorities are still trying to figure out what sparked the

in new orleans while ravens and 49ers fans paid attention to the game, tens of millions of others stayed glued to their seats just for the commercials. those ads caused companies -- cost companies $4 million for 30 seconds of air time. and today we have a better idea of which commercials were worth that money. wusa9 reporter debra alfarone got the results of the "u.s.a. today" ad meters. >> reporter: forget the battle of the super bowl, it's the battle ever the super model.

>> too much time with pat o'brien. let's talk about this afternoon. we've had clouds thickening in from the west. they're going to bring a little bit of snow and some snow showers and flurries around here. let's show you the day planner this afternoon. hazy sunshine still going on now with clouds thickening. temperatures aren't going to be moving all that much more into the mid, perhaps upper 30s here this afternoon. winds have thankfully not been too strong. we'll see a couple of flurries, snow showers as we get into town. north of town and in the mountains, you have a better chance of picking up an inch or so. a dusting to perhaps half an inch is all we'll see here in d.c. here's the system. light snow coming out of southern michigan and ohio right now in toward western pennsylvania. you get south of indianapolis, we're looking at some rain it's warm enough there. locally south of pittsburgh, west of pittsburgh, north of morgantown. in another couple of hours is will be getting into garrett county where they have winter storm warnings in effect. 6 to 10 inches of snow possible

there. hardy, mineral, allegany counties those areas under a winter advisory. only 21 in oakland. 33 martinburg. easton is 32. bwi31. they're very excited about the happyings there up in baltimore. outside on our weather camera, hazy sunshine is what we're looking at this noon hour. get out of the way and let you look at that 34 degrees with cloudy skies and a west, southwest wind at 9. feels like 27 but the air is really drie. humidity only 38% right now. got some arctic air. you see it international falls now at 17 below. they were 31 below earlier. minneapolis is 9. so this is the only real cold stuff. the really cold stuff i mean when you look at temps in the 40s thanks to the clouds moving west to east both in the northern and southern branch of the jet stream. but we'll watch this disturbance as it rides off to our east. a lot of the moisture will be wrung out in the mountainses but we're still looking at a little bit of snow from this.

especially after dark. i think we'll be okay through the daylight hours. shouldn't amount to much and temperatures above freezing. here's a look at futurecast. through 6:00 the snow stays west of the divide. some will cross east overnight. we may get a sprinkle to mix in but the bulk will be north of d.c. overnight. that's why frederick, thurmont, hagerstown, they have a better chance of seeing an inch of snow than here in the district. 37 this afternoon. late flurries or snow showers especially north and west. tonight 25 to 30 with that dusting to perhaps an inch. not going to be a big deal. 43 tomorrow, milder. could be a sprinkle or flurry. better chance actually tomorrow night. then by wednesday 46. thursday 47. some wet weather, showers on friday. and then dry and seasonably mild for the weekend. jc? >> well, for some latinos, preparing for college can be very difficult. but there's one local nonprofit organization that is helping latino youth get ready for
